Make sure that your online registration is completed one week before your scheduled audition. Choose a solo, scale, and orchestral excerpt that best demonstrates your current ability and range. Choosing to play something that is too hard can send the wrong message to the audition panel. If this is your first time auditioning and you don’t have a private teacher, just do your best in preparing your audition!

  • Make sure you arrive 10-15 minutes before your assigned audition time. This allows for you to warm up in a relaxed manner and to have your photo taken for the VYOA student database.
  • Dress for success. This is one more way to show the audition panel you look forward to being part of the VYOA.
  • Have one additional copy of your solo for the audition panel with you.
  • A friendly VYOA staff member will escort you from the Warm Up room to the Audition room.
  • The panel will welcome you and give you a minute to get settled.
  • The audition panel will lead you through the audition.
  • Due to time constraints, the panel may not listen to your solo in its entirety.
  • When you are finished, make sure to stop by the Check-In table and get your “I Auditioned for the VYOA” sticker.
