The VYOA is growing! Starting Fall 2023, the VYOA is offering a jazz program for our state’s finest high school jazz musicians. Led by Kyle Saulnier, this new program is open to 2023-24 9th-12th graders.

Starts September 23 and ends with a culminating concert on November 18.
Tuition is $900 and financial aid is available.

Musicians should meet the following criteria:
  • Have a strong control of their instrument, top-to-bottom.
  • Be able to confidently hold their own with written material in an ensemble.
  • Be able to sight-read reasonably well.
  • Have a working knowledge of and/or aptitude for basic (key-based, diatonic) music theory.
  • A familiarization with playing and improvising in a jazz style is welcomed though not required – a willingness to dive in and learn absolutely is.

Financial Aid

The VYOA is committed to ensuring that no child is turned away from participating due to financial need. Need-based financial aid is available to all qualifying families with a combined household income up to $120,000 who wish to apply.
