VYOA is hosting a series of Studio Classes in the Elley-Long Music Center led by our outstanding Lesson Program faculty! These studio classes are open to the public. Instrumentalists grades 5 through college are welcome to attend and bring their instruments. Music educators and music education majors are also welcome to attend.

Saturday, September 23, 2023- Double Reed Day with Max Grube (Bassoon) and Katie Oprea (Oboe). 

10-11am- Oboe with Katie Oprea (Masterclass and group class)
11am-12pm- Double Reed workshop (Reedmaking)
12-1pm- Bassoon with Max Grube (Masterclass and group class)

While everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the full schedule, oboists will be sure to want to attend 10am to 12pm and bassoonists 11am to 1pm.

Saturday, October 14, 2023. 10am-12pm- Double Bass Forum with Bill Tilley. 

Our bass teaching artist will lead a studio class intended for double bass players of all ages. This is also open to music educators and collegiate music education majors.

Wednesday, December 13, 2023. 6:30-8:00pm- All-State Clarinet Masterclass with Betsy LeBlanc.  

Our Juilliard and Vermont-trained clarinet teaching artist Betsy LeBlanc will lead a masterclass to prepare high school clarinetists for the All-State audition. LeBlanc will perform the piece, suggest practicing strategies, give important fingering information, address audition nerves, and answer questions about the audition and preparatory process. This masterclass is FREE and open to all high-school clarinetists eligible for the VMEA All-State audition.

Saturday, February 24, 2024. 10am-12pm- VYOA Trumpet Day with Brandon Jones. 

Our trumpet teaching artist, Dr. Brandon Jones, will lead a studio class intended for trumpet players of all ages and levels. This is open to the public including music educators and collegiate music education majors.
