Vermont Youth Orchestra Association Online Auction Intern Job Description
Seeking a highly organized intern to facilitate a specific project to raise support for young musicians in our community. This position runs from early January through early April, 2012 (with some possibility of continuing in another capacity through the end of the school year). The VYOA is located on the north campus of St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT.
Organizational background:
The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association is dedicated to providing young musicians with superior educational and performance experiences in orchestral and choral music. Now in its 48th season, the VYOA serves nearly 500 students in grades 1-12 from eleven Vermont counties and bordering states. The VYOA consists of four orchestras, a beginning string ensemble, a chamber music program, a two-tiered choral program, and two summer camps, all of which take place in our beautiful home, the Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael’s College.
Project Description:
The VYOA seeks an intern to help plan for, organize and facilitate our annual Online Auction Fundraising event. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to support our instrumental and choral programs through the sale of donated items in an online auction. The intern will report directly to the VYOA Development Manager. Specific duties will include:
- Design and management of the online auction website (prior web design experience is helpful but not necessary)
- Generating auction items by requesting donations from businesses and individuals
- Generating sponsorship of the online auction
- Communicating via email and phone with donors and bidders on a daily basis
- Organizing and communicating with parent volunteers
- Marketing the auction in the local and online community with assistance from the VYOA Marketing Director
- Distribution of auction items to winning bidders once the auction has closed
- Thanking donors

Intern Benefits:
The VYOA believes that internships are exceptional opportunities for college students to gain work experience while still in school. Internships are great resume builders and help young people determine what types of work they are (and are not!) interested in pursuing after graduation. The VYOA online auction intern will gain valuable leadership skills and experience in project and volunteer management, marketing, and non-profit fundraising. The VYOA is open to structuring the internship around the specific needs/hopes of the right intern candidate.
