Prelude! registration begins mid-March
Prelude! is a year-long program for students entering grades 2-5 who are interested in learning to play a string instrument. Students may choose from violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Only students in grades 4 & 5 can select bass. There will be 22 classes from September through April with an informal concert at the end of the course. The cost of tuition includes students’ instrument rental, method book, and musical training. Prelude! will take place on Sunday afternoons from 12:30-1:30pm at the Elley-Long Music Center. We’re accepting a maximum of 30 students so space is limited!
Conductor: Kathleen Kono
Manager: Rachel Hershy, (802) 655-5030 ext. 100
Rehearsals: Sunday afternoons from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm at Elley-Long Music Center
The VYOA believes that full participation by all members of each ensemble leads to greater success and more fun! Prelude! students are allowed 2 rehearsal absences per semester for illness or an unavoidable schedule conflict. If students must miss more than 2 rehearsals in a given semester, we ask them to come in and play for the conductor as a check-in to make sure they are keeping up with the pace of the course. Parents and/or students must contact Rachel Hershy regarding any absences.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Annual tuition fees for participation in the VYOA instrumental and choral programs vary. For the 2018-19 season, tuition for Prelude! is $600.00. Please note that tuition is non-refundable. The tuition fees for each ensemble program are announced in June and published in the VYOA Handbook given to each student at the beginning of each concert season.
Financial Aid: The VYOA believes strongly that no child should be discouraged from participating due to financial need. Need-based financial aid is available to all families who wish to apply. Please contact our office for additional information on Financial Aid options or to receive a hard-copy of the Financial Aid application.
