New Program Launched: The VYO Chorus

The VYOA unveils a new program this spring: the VYO Chorus. Auditions for participation in the VYO Chorus will be held June 1-3 at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester.

Chorus auditions are open to the following student vocalists:

• Students entering grades 8-12 in the fall
• Those able to read music, match pitch, and blend with other voices
• Students actively participating in their school choral program (if one is offered)

VYOA Orchestral Auditions In Full Swing

Annual auditions for placement in a VYOA orchestra or ensemble will continue through May 24 at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College. Limited Edition Note Card Sale Benefits VYO Tour of China

Order a set of limited edition note cards featuring the artwork of Hong Kong artist Guo Zi Yu. The cards feature an original painting that Mr. Guo has donated to the VYOA (pictured) and will present to the orchestra when they visit Hong Kong in June. The note cards are 4.5 x 5.5" in size and printed in full color. Envelopes are included. Proceeds from all card sales will directly fund the VYO’s concert tour of China. VYOA Annual Meeting

The VYOA Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 7:30 pm at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College. Join us as we celebrate the past year’s accomplishments, award the Eliot & Ann Weathers Scholarship to a graduating senior, and say "bon voyage" to the members of VYO who will leave for their tour of China at the end of June! A special scholarship presentation will also be made in memory of Sara London-Hinman (violist, '05). Save The Date - VYOA & Radio Vermont Host Live Celebration!

On Wednesday, June 6, the stations of the Radio Vermont Group are donating time, money and elbow grease to a LIVE day-long fundraiser for the VYOA. From early morning to late evening, listeners will be treated to on-air conversations with current VYOA students and key staff members, and hear exciting information about upcoming VYOA activities, including the Tour of China. The day will culminate with a live concert and a community dinner at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College. There's Still Time to Register for Music Day Camp!

The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association is accepting applications for Music Day Camp, held Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29, 2007. Camp sessions are held daily from 8:45 am - 4:00 pm at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College. Music Day Camp Director is Timothy Buckingham, known locally for the outstanding band program he directs at Edmunds Middle School in Burlington. The Music Day Camp faculty includes some of the finest music educators in the state.

Tuition for Music Day Camp is $235. Financial aid is available. Registration and financial aid forms are available online or by calling the VYOA office: 655-5030.

The deadline for registration is May 31, 2007.
