Who should audition?
Any young musician (currently in grades 3 through 11) who has had at least one year of experience on an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition for the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association. Woodwind and brass players younger than the 7th grade should have at least two years of experience on their instrument.
*Students must participate in their school instrumental ensemble program, if their instrument is offered.
What do I play at my audition?
1. A Prepared Solo (without accompaniment)
Please bring an extra copy of your music for the Audition Committee.
2. Scales
Prepare a scale (major or minor, any number of octaves) that represents
your current level of playing.
3. Sight Reading
Be prepared to sight read selections presented to you at the time of
the audition.
How long do auditions take?
Each audition takes approximately 10 minutes.
