The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association is dedicated to providing young musicians with superior educational and performance experiences in orchestral and choral music.
Vision Statement
The Vermont Youth Orchestra Association is a community of students, volunteers, parents, artists, educators, administrators, and board members, dedicated to this vision:
- The VYOA will offer its students an integrated program of musical education that will:
- Ensure that every qualified student who seeks to participate has an appropriate placement within our continuum of musical programs, regardless of financial need.
- Achieve the highest possible musical standards through instruction and objectives tailored to the needs of the students.
- Enhance the personal growth and sense of musical community of every student we reach.
- Explore a wide variety of repertoire, including an ongoing commitment to the presentation of living composers and new works.
- Enhance every student’s access to and preparation for musical and educational opportunities beyond the VYOA.
- The VYOA, acting as a catalyst for collaboration and outreach, will:
- Offer its home, the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College, as a community resource for events and education.
- Work together with Vermont musicians, educators, and organizations to expand the musical opportunities available in our community.
- Work closely with youth orchestras and music educators outside of Vermont.
- The VYOA will support its programs with a high performance organizational structure that will:
- Attract and support the highest quality personnel, invest in the continued development of their skills, and challenge them to achieve excellence.
- Foster widespread public recognition of the VYOA.
- Generate a broad base of financial support, maintain fiscal responsibility, and ensure future financial stability.
- Increase the diversity of the VYOA community.
- Serve as a national model for the operation of an independent youth orchestra.
