The Vermont Youth Chorus’ fall semester and culminating Winter Concert explores the meaning embedded in the lyrics of the hymn “How Can I Keep From Singing” and leads us to ask ourselves, “Why do I sing?” Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker’s arrangement of the hymn emphasizes the celebratory and life-affirming aspects of the song. Themes brought to life in Walker’s arrangement resonate throughout the selections that follow. With each piece of this interwoven program they ask the audience ‘How Can I Keep from Singing?’ Vermont Youth Chorale led by Billy Ray Poli will join the Chorus for part of the performance.
