How to join
Membership in our ensembles is offered based on each student’s audition. These ensembles include:
- Vermont Youth Orchestra
- Vermont Youth Philharmonia
- Vermont Youth Strings
- Vermont Youth Chorus
- Vermont Youth Chorale
Our primary audition period is in May for the following season (beginning in August/September).
We also hear mid-season auditions for new students in December (to begin rehearsals in their placed ensemble in January). String students who demonstrate that they are qualified for a particular ensemble will typically be invited to join the ensemble best aligned with their capabilities. Wind, brass, and percussion students will be offered placement on a space-available basis.
No audition is required for our shorter programs such as Presto strings and Summer Symphony Camp.
The VYOA does not require any payment for the opportunity to audition!
